Your Teachers

The Cscape Pilates team bring a wealth of knowledge and experience of Pilates and movement.

Sally Knight Director and founder

Sally has a passion for movement in all it’s forms, and originally trained in Contemporary Dance at the Laban Centre.  After many years of undertaking Pilates classes herself, she went on to train with the Pilates Foundation and qualified as a teacher in 2010.  Sally is passionate about Pilates having reaped the benefits of attending regular classes after suffering with disc injuries in her lower back.   She used Pilates as an effective way of managing her own injuries, and was able to maintain a successful career as a professional dancer for many years despite her diagnosed back condition, and is now delighted to be sharing her skills, knowledge and enthusiasm for Pilates with clients.  Sally’s teaching style draws upon influences from yoga and dance to bring a sense of flow, freedom and fun to classical Pilates exercises. Her welcoming and enthusiastic teaching style ensures that everyone in the class feels welcome and safe within their comfort zone, yet able to progress to more challenging exercises when ready.  In 2013 Sally qualified to teach pregnancy and post natal clients with the Pilates Foundation and has a passion for work in this field.  As a mum of two little ones, she understands the demands that Pregnancy and Motherhood places on the body and enjoys the opportunity to create a vital space for Mums and Mums-to-be to focus on their bodies in a restorative class.

Sally combines her work in Pilates and her work in dance, and creates work as a choreographer with Cscape Dance Company, of which she is the Artistic Director. She also teaches Dance and Movement in a range of settings working with all ages from toddlers to Seniors and is an Associate Lecturer at Falmouth University where she teaches Movement to Acting and Dance students.

Grace Sellwood (Matwork teacher)

Grace  joined the Cscape Pilates team in 2012.  Undertaking her training with Alison Swan and the Pilates Foundation in 2013, Grace has studied an practised Pilates for many years.  Like Sally, Grace also comes from a Contemporary Dance background, and completed her degree in Dance at Roehampton University, before joining graduate dance company ‘Map Dance’ at Chichester, before moving on to complete her MA.    Grace now teaches dance at Falmouth University and also co-runs Freefall Dance  as well as performing nationally and internationally as an aerial dancer.  She has recently trained to teach aerial pilates.  As an experienced movement teacher, Grace brings a warm, approachable and down-to-earth teaching style, and is delighted to be bringing her wealth and passion for Pilates and movement to the people of South Cornwall!

Juliet Bailey

Juliet trained with Balanced Body in London & America and with Body Control Pilates in London. Her interest in pilates as injury rehabilitation and as a tool to manage pain has lead to current learning with Pilates Therapy. In 2019 she hopes to commence training in Garuda Method.

Joanne Hawkin (Matwork teacher)

Joanne Hawkin has been practising Pilates since 2009 and is a qualified L3 Pilates Mat Work Teacher. With a teaching style that is calm and focused, Joanne’s classes are accessible with a balance of restorative and challenging exercises. She has an awareness of individual responses to movement and allows time for personal attention and explanation. Joanne takes Continued Professional Development very seriously and is currently working towards a qualification in Pregnancy and Postnatal Pilates with Mama’s Pilates.

Joanne comes from a theatre performance background; training at Bretton Hall and the London Centre for Theatre Studies. She is an experienced performance teacher with a solid background in teaching and learning. Before training to become a Pilates teacher, Joanne enjoyed using Pilates methods to support her performance teaching and practice; exploring techniques to encourage methodical body-conscious connections and an enhanced awareness of movement. She later found Pilates to be invaluable throughout her twin pregnancy and postnatal recovery.

Joanne teaches for Body Restoration Pilates, Cscape Pilates and HD Pilates, as well as tutoring LAMDA examinations.

She is a member of the Independent Pilates Teachers Association and offers a wide range of classes for a variety of abilities. Heidi comes from a Physical Theatre background and teaches body skills to Theatre students at Falmouth University as well as working as an Actor/Performer herself.  Like Sally, Heidi also used Pilates for years to manage back injuries and hyper mobility issues whilst successfully working as a physical theatre performer and is a strong advocate for the benefits of pilates to restore us back to pain free movement. Heidi primarily teaches one off classes and masterclasses with Cscape and has her own company HD Pilates which teaches classes in Truro and St Agnes.
